Over the last week I have asked my Facebook followers and friends to help me name several new designs of my recycled rubber earrings. Normally the names come to me quite quickly but these pairs were different, stronger and I knew that I needed help.
I have been amazed at all the suggestions and the generosity of ideas that were put forth for these earrings.
The red matching earrings are now called Hine-tiitama. Hine-tiitama was the daughter of Tane and Hineahuone, who upon discovering that Tane her father was also Tane her husband, fled to the Underworld where she killed herself and became Hine-nui-te-po.
The blue matching earrings are now called Hinemoana - Ocean woman. Second wife of Kiwa.
These contempory earrings also work being mixed with Harakeke for those of you who prefer an edgier, non conventional look. They have been named Mahuika a fire atua and Rerekee which means to be different. Thanks to Tracy for suggesting that I add a coloured thread into Harakeke to link the pairs together.
I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions. The Inarapa recycled rubber earrings are becoming a true collaborations and I appreciate the manaaki that everyone has shown me.
